Hepatitis C genotyping

This investigation is performed at Healthscope Molecular’s central Melbourne laboratory using Healthscope Molecular’s own DNA sequencing methods.

The Hepatitis C virus RNA must first be transcribed into complementary DNA and the resulting sequence compared to those of known genotypes.

The genotype provides important prognostic information as to the likelihood of successful antiviral treatment and is subject to the same ordering restrictions under Medicare as Hepatitis C viral loads with the exception that only one test is rebatable in a 12 month period.
