Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea PCR – a multiplex (detects more than one agent in the same assay) "real time"’ PCR detecting both these organisms as they frequently occur together in the same patient sample.
An additional confirmatory assay is routinely performed on presumptive positives for Neisseria gonorrhoeae from non-genital sites to guard against false reactivity from the DNA of other Neisseria species. This is a well recognised problem with Neisseria due to their promiscuous interchange of DNA. The confirmatory assay targets a chromosomal gene sequence that is different from the primary assay (plasmid sequence). |
